Katherine A. Macoul, MD, MBA, is a board-certified ophthalmologist, glaucoma specialist, cornea specialist, specializing in laser vision correction, glaucoma and anterior segment disease.
Dr. Macoul received her bachelor of science and medical degrees from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. She completed a medical and surgical internship at Georgetown University and her residency in ophthalmology at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Macoul also served a fellowship in glaucoma at George Washington University. She went on to complete a second fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery with Cornea Consultants of Washington D.C., performing thousands of laser vision corrective surgeries. Dr. Macoul received her MBA at Auburn University in 2012 with an emphasis on healthcare.
Serving as a consultant to the Ophthalmology Department at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Dr. Macoul was active in teaching area optometrists and ophthalmologists laser surgery techniques. She herself has undergone laser vision correction and, because of her firsthand experience, is able to help her patients through their own laser vision surgery.
Dr. Macoul was previously chief of the medical staff at Tampa Community Hospital. Currently, she serves as county delegate to the Florida Medical Association. A philanthropist at heart, Dr. Macoul also serves as an ophthalmologist aboard Mercy Ships, SEE International and in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
Dr. Macoul lives in Tampa with her husband and four children and enjoys outdoor activities. She is an avid scuba diver, skier, runner and swimmer.
