Voltaren is used to treat cystoid macular edema CMEWhy is this medicine prescribed?

Voltaren, also called Diclofenac, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID). It is used to reduce pain and inflammation in the eyes.

How should this medicine be used?

Use caution with contact lenses. After applying this medication, wait at least 15 minutes before inserting contact lenses. Avoid other eye medications unless your doctor approves.

What SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS should I follow?

Do not use Voltaren if you have a herpes infection in your eye. Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you have:

  • any type of bleeding or blood-clotting disease,
  • recently had surgery, or
  • stomach ulcers.

You may not be able to use Voltaren, or you may require special monitoring during therapy if you have any of the conditions listed above. If you wear contact lenses, you may not be able to use them during therapy with this medication.

Diclofenac ophthalmic is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to harm an unborn baby. Do not use Voltaren without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known whether Voltaren passes into breast milk. Do not use Voltaren without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

What should I do IF I FORGET to apply a dose?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next one as directed. Do not use a double dose of this medication.

What SIDE EFFECTS can this medicine cause?

Serious side effects are not expected with this medication. Some burning, stinging, irritation, itching, redness, or sensitivity to light may occur. Continue to use Voltaren and talk to your doctor about any side effects that you experience.

What STORAGE CONDITIONS are needed for this medicine?

Store diclofenac ophthalmic at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle properly capped.

What OTHER INFORMATION should I know?

Keep all appointments with your doctor.

Do not let anyone else use your medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.
