WHY is this Ciloxan ointment prescribed?

Ciloxan ointment is used to treat eye infections and is also used in the treatment of corneal (eye) ulcers.

HOW should Ciloxan ointment be used?

Ciprofloxacin comes in two forms: eyedrops and eye ointment. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use ciprofloxacin exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Ciloxan SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Before using ciprofloxacin ophthalmic ointment:

  • Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to ciprofloxacin or any other drugs.
  • Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, including vitamins.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while using ciprofloxacin ophthalmic , call your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you wear soft contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after using the medicine to put in soft contact lenses.

What should I do if I FORGET A DOSE of Ciloxan?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not instill a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Ciloxan side effects?

Although side effects from ciprofloxacin ophthalmic ointment are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

  • Eye discomfort, blurred vision, decreased visual acuity or perception, dry eye
  • Swelling of the eye
  • Eye pain
  • Feeling of a foreign body in eye
  • Eye tearing, itching or irritation of the eye
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Nausea
  • Bad taste following instillation

If you experience difficulty breathing, hives on the skin or vision changes, call your doctor immediately.

What STORAGE CONDITIONS are needed for Ciloxan?

Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Do not freeze. Protect it from light. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

What OTHER INFORMATION should I know?

Make sure that your doctor is aware of any and all medications that you are taking.

Do not let anyone else use your medication. Ask your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions about your medication.
