Harvard Medical School -- International ophthalmologists and researchers met in Detroit in June '06 to discuss the future of artificial retina implants that are being developed in over one hundred research facilities around the world.

Over 30 investigators and clinicians from 9 countries and 26 programs came together with the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology to present their work and findings with visual neuro-prosthetic devices.

They discussed topics in the areas of: microelectronics, transretinal stimulators, the Korean Artificial Retina Project, Visual Prosthesis, Visual Outcomes in Retinal Prosthetic Clinical Trials, Epiretinal Stimulation of Ganglion Cells, Retinal Responses to Electrical Stimulation and more.

MaculaCenter.com will continue to follow the exciting research of artificial vision and we will post our findings as this important news develops.  Check back here often!

NOTE:  Dr. Deupree does not perform artificial retina implants.  These procedures are still being researched and are under careful study.
